County Championship & One Day Cup formats to remain unchanged for next season

Published 24/09/2025

Worcestershire County Cricket Club can confirm that the proposal to reduce the number of County Championship matches to 13, featuring a top competition of 12 counties (split into two pools of six) and a Championship Two of six counties, did not receive the required two-thirds majority support from the Professional County Clubs (PCCs).

What this means for next season

  • Rothesay County Championship:

The competition will continue in its current format with two divisions (10 teams in Division One and 8 in Division Two), with two teams promoted and two teams relegated. Worcestershire will be participating in the second division in 2026.

  • Men’s Metro Bank One Day Cup:

The competition will also remain in its current format, with each team playing eight matches alongside The Hundred, followed by Play-Offs, Semi-Finals and a Final. Groups for this competition will be drawn later in the year.

  • Men’s Vitality Blast:

The competition will revert to three groups of six counties, with the quarter-finals and men’s Vitality Blast Finals Day played before The Hundred. With 12 games overall, six being at Visit Worcestershire New Road.
