There has been no rest for Worcestershire’s rising star Isaac Mohammed since the end of the 2025 summer, with the 17-year-old currently gearing up for his maiden overseas tour with the Young Lions.
Described by the batter himself as a “whirlwind summer”, Isaac’s first season in professional cricket saw the teenager sign his first professional contract with Worcestershire, make his competitive debut in both white ball and first-class cricket for the county, with his eye-catching performances yielding international honours with a call up to represent England U19’s.
However, the prospect of his enthralling first year as a professional cricketer being rounded off with a seven-match tour of West Indies is one that fills the destructive opening batter with excitement.
“It’s a month-long tour where we’ll go through seven ODI games against West Indies and America, which, obviously will be quite different for me, because I don’t feel like I’ve been abroad very much or played a lot of games away.
“I think it’ll be a good experience, especially against a good West Indies side, that’s something to look forward to.
“I’ve been on a few Academy tours but only played minimal games and this will be my first with England, so I am sure it will be quite a good whole experience for me.”
Signed from rivals Warwickshire midway through the summer, the big-hitting left hander caught the eye of the Visit Worcestershire New Road hierarchy with his raw skillset and natural aggression.
Cementing himself in the Vitality T20 Blast side at the top of the order and impressing in the early stages of the Metro Bank One Day Cup, Isaac capped off his domestic summer by earning his prestigious first-class cap in the Pears’ final Division One match of the season against Sussex.
Having been mentored closely by family member Kadeer Ali in club colours, Isaac, is keen to embrace the chance to work with an array of new coaches on the international scene.
“With the experience and the high-quality coaches who work at England, I think it’s something I can learn a lot from, which is one of the big things I am looking forward to.
“Playing for Worcestershire regularly puts my confidence up by so much.
“I felt that even in the Bangladesh tour, just my confidence going into the U19’s stuff when I have played first team cricket helped me so much.
“Obviously, the main thing for me now is looking to do that again.
Since the completion of the season, Isaac has been balancing his time away from playing with his Sports Coaching and Development studies at Solihull college.
However, in preparation for the winter tour to the Caribbean, plenty of hard work in the nets and practice in the indoor school has continued to ensure the family connection of England great and former Worcestershire captain, Moeen Ali, hits his straps ahead of the series.
“For me it’s important to stay in rhythm, because I find that’s hugely important to me. I feel like I have to be hitting a lot of balls, so that’s something that I have been keeping up to date with.
“The main objective is obviously to win the Tour. We have a total of seven ODIs, so hopefully we end up coming out on top there.
“I think just getting loads of experience, going away to new conditions and just gaining a bit more knowledge on the surfaces we play against certain teams are the main things I am looking forward to with the squad.”
