Worcestershire CCC duo Jack Haynes and Adam Finch both featured in useful partnerships as England Under-19s earned a first innings lead of 73 on day two of the first ‘Test’ with South Africa Under-19s at Scarborough.
Test debutant Haynes came to the wicket at 46-2 in reply to South Africa’s first innings total of 232 and added 47 with skipper and century-maker Tom Banton.
He collected three boundaries in his 16 off 36 balls before he was third out with the total on 93 – lbw to Gideon Peters.
Banton dominated the remainder of the day and struck a superb 137 off 167 balls.
But after his dismissal, Finch came in at number 10 at 246-8 and ensured England extended their advantage.
He made 12 but just as importantly stayed in to add a useful 48 runs for the ninth wicket with Luke Hollman (48) before also falling leg before to Peters.
Finch is also making his Test debut although he appeared in last summer’s ODI Series versus India and the winter World Cup in New Zealand.
After England were eventually bowled out, South Africa were left with 11 overs batting and reached 24-0 by the close – still trailing by 49 runs.
Finch again took the new ball for England and bowled three overs for 10 runs.
