worcestershire ccc batsman jack haynes and his england under-19 team-mates need to pull out all the stops to qualify for the final of the tri-series tournament also featuring india and bangladesh.
haynes followed up his 89 against india on friday at cheltenham by making another useful 35 on the same ground but opponents bangladesh pulled off a seven wicket success.
it followed their victory over england at New Road last monday.
as a result at the half-way stage in the group, india and bangladesh both have accumulated five points from four games – three points ahead of england.
haynes again looked in good touch in striking six boundaries in his 41 ball knock and he added 58 in 11 overs for the second wicket with ben charlesworth (68).
the former malvern college pupil was lbw to rakibul hasan with the total 68-2 in the 14th over.
charlesworth, lewis goldsworthy (36), captain george hill (30) and finlay bean (36) helped england reach 242-9 in their 50 overs.
but bangladesh reached their target with nine balls to spare.
haynes and england are next in action on august 1 – also against bangladesh – at billericay cc as they look to revive their chances of qualifying for the final on august 11 at hove.
their remaining fixtures are
1 august: england v bangladesh (billericay cc)
3 august: england v india (chelmsford)
5 august: england v bangladesh (beckenham)
9 august: england v india (beckenham)
