worcestershire ccc head coach alex gidman admitted the outstanding wicket-keeping of ben cox can sometimes be taken for granted after he produced another exemplary display in the bob willis trophy encounter with glamorgan at New Road.
cox added another stunning catch to his growing list of magnificent dismissals when he held onto a chance offered by glamorgan century-maker billy root off charlie morris.
the 28-year-old went full length to his left to pluck the ball out of the air one-handed.
he had also produced another catch out of the top drawer against gloucestershire at bristol after josh shaw had nicked a delivery from josh tongue.
the ball would not have carried to first slip but the razor sharp reflexes of cox meant he was able to get his hand under the ball low to his right.
gidman said: “i guess sometimes we take it granted with ben. he does it day in and day out and does his job very well.
“he takes a blinding catch and you think nothing of it because you are used to seeing it.
“but he did his job very well. he is an outstanding keeper and perhaps sometimes it is easy to forget how important a part he plays. he was outstanding.”
cox has climbed into the top five in terms of the most victims for worcestershire after his 11 scalps in the opening two games.
he has overhauled ernest bale (316), who played for the county either side of world war one, and now has 324 dismissals for worcestershire.
only steve rhodes (1093), roy booth (1016), hugo yarnold (682) and david humphries (345) are ahead of him in the all-time list for the county.
