Three Worcestershire CCC Academy players have been selected for the 2022 ‘Super Fours’, at the National Performance Centre, Loughborough.
All-rounders Reeve Evitts and Academy captain, Joe Stanley, plus batter Ollie Walker have been chosen for the Midlands side in what is effectively the Under-17s equivalent of the Bunburys.
All of the trio are members of the 2021-2022 Worcestershire Academy intake at New Road.
A fourth Academy player in Cameron Jones was also selected but ruled out through injury.
Evitts, Stanley and Walker will participate in T20 and 50 over matches against London-East, The North and South-West throughout the week-long tournament which gets underway on Sunday (July 17).
Jack Haynes, Josh Tongue and Adam Finch of the current Worcestershire first-team squad are amongst those who have been selected in the past for the Super Fours.
It is a second Super Fours call-up for Evitts after his selection 12 months ago.
Academy Coach, Elliot Wilson, said: “The four lads do deserve richly to be involved and it is a shame Cameron can’t take part because of an injury.
“They get exposed to a ‘best versus best’ situation where the best players across the country come together.
“We get to find out a little bit more about where they are in relation to the very best players in the country and work out from that what is next for them in terms of their development, where they need to go, what is required of them.
“It is very pleasing for the whole Academy programme that some of our most talented players get recognised at Bunburys and Super Fours festivals and hopefully some of them go onto play England Under-19s and then represent Worcestershire.”
Wilson added: “Reeve has been with us from quite an early age and every year, rather than plateauing, he just keeps on improving and keeps evolving and it is quite exciting what he might be able to achieve.
“Ollie has played some second team cricket this summer and also played a lot of cricket for Herefordshire in the National Counties competition.
“He has performed very well for Herefordshire and shown some promise in second team cricket.
“Joe has earned the right to be there with his weight of performances both for us and for Wolverhampton.”
*The Academy will take on Northamptonshire in the quarter-finals of the ECB Under-18 County Cup on Sunday, August 7 (venue to be confirmed). They defeated Warwickshire by 71 runs in the third round.
