Worcestershire Academy are through to the final of the ECB Under-18 County Plate competition after defeating Cumbria by 40 runs at Millom CC.

They will face Surrey in the final at Kibworth CC on Sunday, September 3.

Captain and spinner Joe Stanley was again amongst the wickets with a five-for as Cumbria were bowled out for 148 in 40 overs.

Cumbria reached 58-0 before Ben Clarke picked up the important wicket of Freddie Whatmuff (47).

Stanley came into the attack first change at the end of the initial powerplay.

He took five of the next six wickets as Cumbria slumped from 72-2 to 96-8.

Stanley bowled his overs in one spell and ended with figures of 10-0-30-5.

Clarke (10-1-23-2) and Joshua Leach (10-0-42-2) also played important roles in helping to secure victory.
