Usama Mir to play for Seconds in T20 opener

Usama Mir has linked up with Worcestershire ahead of the Vitality Blast and will play for the Seconds in tomorrow’s (Monday’s) opening ECB T20 encounter with Somerset Seconds at Ombersley.

The Pakistan leg spinner had first season to remember at New Road in 2023 when he topped the Rapids batting and bowling averages.

Usama produced some big-hitting knocks and with the ball finished as the Rapids second highest wicket-taker with 19 at 16.89.

He was originally only with the Rapids for the first three games but returned for the second half of the group campaign after Michael Bracewell’s injury.

Tom Taylor will continue his comeback from shoulder and knee injuries after playing for the Seconds in a T20 friendly against Oxford UCCE at Stourport-on-Severn.

The all-rounder is looking to confirm his fitness ahead of the Blast.

Worcestershire have three games in five days to launch the T20 competition, taking on Warwickshire at Portland Road, Edgbaston on Wednesday and the return with Somerset at Taunton Vale on Friday.
