Libby tops averages at halfway stage

Worcestershire batter Jake Libby is top of the national batting averages at the half-way stage of the 2024 Metro Bank One Day Cup group stages – with an average of more than 200.

The Rapids One Day Cup captain is leading by example with three half centuries in his four innings to date batting in the number four role.

Libby hit 89 not out versus Durham, an unbeaten 71 against Derbyshire and then was 50 not out when facing Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

It has given him an average of 212.00 heading into the second half of the tournament, beginning with Wednesday’s encounter with Kent at Visit Worcestershire New Road (11am start).

Libby’s efforts follow on from him being the Rapids leading scorer in both the 2022 and 2023 One Day Cup.

Gareth Roderick is also high up the national batting averages and is currently lying in seventh position.

The keeper-batter has amassed 270 runs at an average of 90 thanks chiefly to his 115 versus Middlesex and unbeaten 152 in the win over Derbyshire.

On the bowling front, Worcestershire pace bowler Jack Home’s promising start to his senior career means he is currently sixth in the national averages.

He has taken nine wickets in his two One Day Cup appearances, including 6-51 versus Derbyshire, at an average of 11.66 runs apiece.
