Lions to return to New Road for Sri Lanka four day game ahead of First Test

England Lions will be returning to action at Visit Worcestershire New Road next week.

The cream of England’s young talent are playing a four day game against Sri Lanka beginning on Wednesday, August 14.

It will form part of Sri Lanka’s preparations for the three match Test Series against England which gets underway on Wednesday, August 21 at Emirates Old Trafford.

Worcestershire have regularly staged Lions games at New Road stretching back to 2007 when the team was rebranded from England ‘A’.

They have held fixtures involving the Lions and various touring teams in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

Worcestershire batter Adam Hose was part of the Lions team which went down by 107 runs to South Africa in the most recent New Road fixture – a 50 over game – in 2022.

The Lions have selected a 14 strong squad comprising of players from seven different counties to face Sri Lanka.

Play will get underway each day at 11am and tickets are free for members and £10 for others.
