Worcestershire Academy middle order batter Fin Goodman is set to make his Seconds debut in the Championship match with Derbyshire at Barnt Green beginning on Monday.
Goodman, a member of the 2023-2024 Academy intake, has been given his opportunity after a string of consistent scores for the Academy in the ECB Under-18 County Championship.
He scored 61 against Cricket Wales, 60 versus Gloucestershire and then 50 off the Somerset attack and played all five games in the tournament for unbeaten Worcestershire.
Goodman was also selected for the 2023 ECB Bunbury Festival at Loughborough and was part of the Worcestershire pathway before becoming a full member of the Academy last October.
Pace bowler Jack Home, who this week signed a three year contract for Worcestershire after his promising displays in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, is also part of the squad.
Triallist seamer Seb Allison will have another outing for the Seconds after playing in last week’s Championship fixture against Middlesex at Radlett.
Ed Pollock will skipper the side with Henry Cullen keeping wicket and play will get underway each day at 10.30am as is customary in September.
Assistant Coach Richard Jones, who oversees the Seconds, said: “There were plenty of positives against Middlesex. Obviously it is never nice to lose a game of cricket.
“The way I framed it is that it needs to be a learning experience really and that is what cricket is all about.
“If you look at the make-up of the sides, we were vastly younger and more inexperienced than the Middlesex side so it is a great experience for them and we had some positive performances.
“Dan Lategan played really well, Seth Essenhigh (98) in the first innings, George O’Connor a triallist seamer bowled really nicely, and Tom Hinley (seven wickets) bowled well.”
