LIBBY’S SUSTAINED IMPACT AHEAD OF INNINGS MILESTONE FOR WORCESTERSHIRE

Jake Libby’s first innings of next season will be his 100th in first class cricket for Worcestershire – and he has made a massive and prolonged impact after switching counties five years ago.

The prolific opener, who reported back this week for pre-season training with his team-mates, has amassed 4,124 runs for the County in red ball cricket at an average of 45.82 since making the move from Nottinghamshire for the 2020 season.

Libby has finished in the top three run-scorers in a domestic season on three occasions during his time at Visit Worcestershire New Road.

He has scored 12 centuries and 19 fifties during that period.

It is a testimony to his consistency in the County Championship while his game has also flourished in List A cricket.

Libby immediately made his mark during the 2020 season – shortened because of the pandemic – and amassed 498 runs in the Bob Willis Trophy which replaced the Championship as the first class competition.

It was the highest tally in the group stages and only overhauled after Alastair Cook hit 172 in the final for Essex against Somerset.

Libby enjoyed another run-laced summer in 2021 when the Championship was split into three divisions and was again the second highest scorer with 1,075 runs.

Two years later Libby produced his most successful campaign in terms of runs scored with 1153, the third highest tally in Division Two.

Metro Bank One Day Cup captain Libby is looking forward to working on further improving his game during the next four months.

The 31-year-old, who has reported back for pre-season training with his team-mates, said: “It was quite a long season and was nice to rest up, have a holiday and play some golf.

“I’ll assess the season personally, and there are always thing you want to work on during the winter.

“I’ll have a think about that and Kaddy (Kadeer Ali) is here all winter which is good for us.

“There will be a lot of hours in the indoor nets and there are a few things I want to improve on.”
