MORE FIREWORKS FROM CULLEN WHILE RODERICK CONTINUES GOOD FORM

Worcestershire keeper-batter Henry Cullen was again in explosive form with the bat for Woodville on day two of the South Australian Cricket Association Premier Cricket first grade encounter with Southern District.

Cullen has been a model of consistency this winter and he followed up his top score first innings effort of 45 by making a rapid 61 from just 34 deliveries.

He again opened the innings after Woodville had been left a 205 target and was soon into his stride.

Cullen smote Josh Hen-Boisen and Jack Roberts for sixes and hit three fours in an over from Tim Stewart.

He put on 66 for the third wicket with Campbell Vadlja (29) and had a strike rate of 179.41 when he was finally caught at deep mid wicket at 97-3.

Woodville closed on 119-5 from 17 overs after earlier dismissing Southern District for 153 in 61.2 overs in their second innings.

Another Worcestershire keeper-batter in Gareth Roderick was also in good form and top-scored with 60 when skippering Green Point in the Western Province Premier Division fixture against Brackenfell.

But his fine efforts were in vain as Green Point went down by 46 runs, closing on 211-9 in reply to Brackenfell’s 257-7.

Roderick opened the innings and hit four boundaries in his 81 ball innings, adding 62 for the second wicket with Thando Ntini.

He was eventually third out with the total on 112 in the 29th over and, despite 50 off 31 balls from Guy Sheena, Green Point fell short of their target.

Ed Pollock helped St. George close the gap on leaders Parramatta to a single point as his side enjoyed the better of the New South Wales Premier Cricket first grade encounter with the two-‘day game played in its entirety over the weekend.

On a testing surface for batters coupled to a slow outfield, Pollock scored 20 off 42 balls with a single boundary – a complete contrast to his accustomed free-scoring role.

St. George ground out 198-9 from 90 overs on Saturday (day one) with Parramatta 2-1 off three overs at the close.

The dominance of ball over bat continued on day two with Parramatta dismissed for 122 in 48.2 overs thanks chiefly to Peter Francis’s 5-24.

Pollock and his team-mates now stand on 58 points from 13 games and Parramatta 59 from 13 games.

Ethan Brookes was rested for the weekend from action with Adelaide University because of a stiff back.
