Worcestershire Academy (Under-18s) will launch their LV=Under-18 County Championship three-day competition on Monday (July 24) when they take on Somerset at Barnt Green.
The Academy will be looking to emulate last summer’s success when they finished top of Group Two with an unbeaten record.
They won three and drew two of their five matches and will face the same opponents during the 2023 tournament in which there will again be no knockout element.
The competition offers valuable experience of playing a longer format of the game for Academy players accustomed to normally playing 50 over or T20 fixtures.
Joe Stanley, who picked up three first innings wickets for the Seconds in their Championship win over Glamorgan at New Road, will skipper the side.
Cameron Jones will return after playing for the Midlands in the Super Fours at the National Performance Centre, Loughborough.
Fellow pace bowler Harry Darley, who has been producing some impressive performances for the Seconds, is also part of the squad with Seth Essenhigh keeping wicket.
Worcestershire Academy will play their Group Two matches in a six week period and their other fixtures are: August 1-3 – Warwickshire (Portland Road, Edgbaston); August 8-10 – Northamptonshire (Desborough CC); August 15-17 – Wales (Kidderminster CC); August 29-31 – Gloucestershire (North Parade).
