Worcestershire Seconds have included former Warwickshire opener Andy Umeed in their squad for the Second Eleven Championship match with Glamorgan Seconds at Barnt Green beginning today (Monday).
The 25-year-old scored a century on his County Championship debut for the Bears against Durham in 2016 and another hundred against a Lancashire attack including James Anderson the following season.
Umeed comes into the opening spot in place of Jack Haynes who was called into the senior squad for the LV=Insurance County Championship encounter with Essex at New Road which ended yesterday.
Haynes was one of three century-makers for the Seconds in last week’s high-scoring drawn game with Lancashire at Stourport.
Seconds Coach Kadeer Ali was pleased with many facets of that performance – and the wicket the game was played on after a late switch from Kidderminster.
He said: “First and foremost, the wicket was fantastic for four days – good to bat on but with a bit of carry for the bowlers and then spinning on the last day.
“I was really impressed and say a big thank you with the game being moved at the last minute.
“In terms of our performance, we had a fantastic first innings of 480 and I was really pleased three lads got hundreds.
“It was something we spoke about, the need for the lads to get hundreds and to bat for long periods and now we just need to maintain that.
“Bowling-wise, we put down a few early chances which could have changed the game but we bowled pretty well and going into the last day still had a chance of making them follow on.
“George Drissell bowled quite nicely and tight and was rewarded with some wickets and overall it was a disciplined performance.
“On the last day when we batted again, we were in a bit of trouble with the ball turning and there being as couple of loose shots but we managed to hold on. Overall it was a pleasing performance.”
The four-day fixture beginning today was originally scheduled to take place at New Road.
