BEN COX TO BID FAREWELL TO WORCESTERSHIRE AFTER YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE

Worcestershire County Cricket Club today announces that Ben Cox is to depart the Club, bringing to an end a remarkable chapter in the club’s history. Ben, who has been a stalwart of the team for several years, leaves Worcestershire with our deepest gratitude for his unwavering commitment, exceptional skills, and invaluable contributions to the club’s successes.

Cox will join Leicestershire on loan for the remainder of the 2023 season before joining them permanently from 1 October after turning down a new white-ball contract.

Since being plucked out of school and making his debut as a teenager in 2009, Cox’s journey with Worcestershire has been nothing short of extraordinary. His wicketkeeping brilliance, dependable batting, and dedication have made him a popular figure among players, staff, and supporters alike.

Worcestershire’s Head Coach, Alan Richardson, who shared the field with Ben Cox at the start of his career, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the departing cricketer:

“Ben has been an integral part of Worcestershire cricket, and it’s been an absolute privilege to witness his growth and development over the years.

“His work ethic and commitment have been an inspiration to all of us. I had the privilege of playing alongside him during the early days of his career, and it’s been remarkable to see him evolve into the outstanding cricketer he is today. Ben will always hold a special place in the hearts of Worcestershire supporters, and his legacy here will endure.”

Ben Cox’s contributions to the club have been multifaceted. He was a crucial part of the squad during the Vitality Blast triumph in 2018, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure, picking up player of the match awards in both the semi-final and final. His record-breaking dismissals behind the stumps and vital partnerships with the bat will be fondly remembered by Worcestershire supporters.

Commenting on his departure, Ben Cox said, “Leaving Worcestershire is a bittersweet moment for me. This Club has been my cricketing home for 22 years, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunities, experiences, successes and memories that I’ve had here at Worcestershire.

“I want to thank my teammates, the coaching staff, and the incredible Worcestershire supporters who have been my extended family for so long. I’m excited for the new challenge ahead and in particular getting back to playing all three formats, but Worcestershire will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Worcestershire County Cricket Club wishes Ben Cox the very best for his future endeavours. Ben will always be welcome at New Road, and his legacy will forever be etched in Worcestershire’s history.
