BOWLING COACH ALAN RICHARDSON – DAY ONE REACTION GLAMORGAN V WORCESTERSHIRE

Worcestershire Bowling Coach-Assistant Coach Alan Richardson gave his reaction at the end of day one of the Specsavers County Championship match with Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens.

The home side closed on 354-6 but four wickets fell to Worcestershire all-rounder Brett D’Oliveira in the final session of the day.

Richardson told BBC Hereford-Worcester’s Dave Bradley: “Who’s day was that? Both sides will probably see some positives out of it but I think Glamorgan have probably just pipped it.

“We looked at the wicket this morning and thought it would probably do a little bit more than it has done.

“They applied themselves really well and it was important they saw off the new ball – and they did and took advantage during the second session.

“Dolly’s spell certainly swung it back a little bit towards us after we were staring down a barrel at one stage.

“He was pretty accurate and the ball came out nicely. It was just about him getting some overs under his belt and being able to apply a little bit of pressure which he did.

“He tried different angles of coming over and around the wicket when we got into that situation. We probably had to try something a little bit different and thankfully it came off and gave us just a little bit of a chink of light.”

On opting to bowl first, Richardson said: “We looked at the wicket this morning and it had a real good covering of grass so we thought having a bowl was probably the right thing to do to try and take advantage of that.

“It didn’t quite happen this morning and like I said, the Glamorgan guys applied themselves really well and punished anything that was not in the right area.”
