BRAGG AND CLARK IMPRESS AS UNDER-17S SEIZE CONTROL AT STOURBRIDGE

BRAGG AND CLARK IMPRESS AS UNDER-17S SEIZE CONTROL AT STOURBRIDGE

Worcestershire Under-17s established a position of command on the opening day of the Specsavers County Championship match with Devon Under-17s at Stourbridge.

Devon elected to bat and were bowled out for 129 in 44.3 overs with Ed Bragg picking up four wickets.

Worcestershire opener and captain Pete Clark then batted through the remainder of the day for an unbeaten 63 as his side reached 195-4 off 59 overs – a lead of 66.

It was an encouraging start on the back of last week’s impressive 295 run opening win against Gloucestershire at Bishopston CC in Bristol.

Bragg and Matt Davis (7-1-26-2) immediately put Devon on the back foot with the new ball and shared four wickets in reducing the visitors to 44-4.

The former returned to pick up a further couple of wickets including the final one and ended with splendid figures of 11.3-5-19-4.

Josh Baker cleaned up the lower order with three wickets.

He ended with a return of 15-7-49-3 and Henry Marshall (7-3-14-1) was the other wicket-taker.

When Worcestershire batted, Clark proved difficult to dislodge and his 166 ball knock contained seven fours.

He shared in partnerships of 83 for the second wicket with Xavie Clarke and 57 for the third with Jacques Banton.

Clarke made exactly 50off 89 deliveries with eight boundaries and Banton raced to 42 off 40 balls with two sixes and five fours.

By the close Rehan Edavaleth was unbeaten on 19 not out.
