COACHING PAIR DAVIES AND MAGOFFIN BRING PLENTY OF EXPERIENCE TO WOMEN’S RAPIDS

worcestershire women’s rapids have an experienced coaching duo at the helm as they continue the countdown to the 2019 season.

head coach gareth davies has taken over the role from sam wyles after spending the previous two years as assistant coach.

former worcestershire ccc paceman steve magoffin will work alongside davies as the rapids assistant coach along with his other role as lead coach and manager of the worcestershire women’s pathway programme.

davies played for glamorgan seconds and minor counties for wales plus three years cricket based in melbourne, australia where he also gained coaching experience.

he gained his sports coaching degree in 2013 and worked as a performance analysis for warwickshire – men’s and women’s teams.

davies currently also coaches with complete cricket and loughborough rdc and had spells at bromsgrove school and solihull school.

magoffin has been taking his first steps on the coaching ladder since hanging up his spikes last summer with 581 first class wickets to his name.

the australian, who had two spells as a player at New Road, has done some work with the county’s academy players.

he linked up with the women’s rapids in his current role in late october and, says davies, has already made a big impression.

he said: “we have found a hidden gem there with the appointment of steve, just the professionalism that he brings to the set-up, not only as a pathway manager but as an assistant-coach.

“the knowledge and overall game knowledge he has, he passes onto the girls and it is fantastic to have him on board, it has worked really well.”
