Worcestershire Seconds will wind up their 2018 Championship programme when they take on Derbyshire Seconds at Belper starting tomorrow.
Coach Alex Gidman has named a 12 strong squad for the three-day fixture including pace duo Josh Tongue and Charlie Morris who are available after a metatarsal fracture and ankle injury respectively.
Gidman has had to dig deep into his contacts book on occasions this year to produce triallists because of injuries, representative and international call-ups and first team selections
But he is able to field a strong looking squad which includes Brett D’Oliveira, Alex Milton, Dillon Pennington and Steve Magoffin who played in the most recent Specsavers County Championship match against Somerset.
Tom Fell will also be looking to reproduce the fine form he showed for the Seconds in the T20 and Championship games with Yorkshire last week.
Head Coach Kevin Sharp, who oversaw those matches while Gidman and Alan Richardson shared Vitality Blast preparations, said: “It has been interesting with the Seconds this year because we have had so many injuries, to bowlers particularly.
“There have been lots of opportunities for triallists to come and play. We’ve had some good performances, lads coming in and playing for us who are not members of this staff.
“But we had a nucleus of our own pros against Yorkshire and probably the one guy who came out really on top during the week was Tom Fell.
“He played two lovely innings in the T20 competition, he made a 100 in the second game, and he made 75 in the Championship and was batting beautifully and was out to a very good ball.”
