Worcestershire Under-17s suffered a last day batting collapse and went down by 52 runs to Devon Under-17s in the Specsavers County Championship at Stourbridge.
Devon had started day three only 18 runs ahead with just four second innings wickets in hand but managed to recover sufficiently to set a 140 target.
This still looked well within the capabilities of Worcestershire who had scored 340 in their first innings and had dominated the opening two days.
After reaching 34-1 in their second innings, they were guilty of a below-par batting display and were dismissed for 87.
Devon resumed on 229-6 and Ed Bragg quickly picked up the seventh wicket of the innings.
But the eighth and ninth wickets added 44 and 49 runs respectively and Devon managed to total 350 all out in 97.5 overs.
Matt Davis finished with 17-3-63-3, Bragg 21-6-58-2 – and match figures of 32.3-11-77-6 – Josh Dickenson 14-1-61-2, Henry Marshall 15.5-4-54-1 and Josh Baker 18-9-35-1.
Worcestershire in reply lost the bedrock of their first innings, Pete Clark for a duck with only four runs on the board.
Dan Holland (15) and Xavie Clarke (26) added 30 but, from 78-4, the last six wickets went down for nine runs.
Alex Hinkley (30) top-scored and was the only other player into double figures.
Spinner Sam Read, who had figures of 4-4-0-3 at one stage, and seamer Luke Medlock, with three wickets, were Devon’s most successful bowlers.
