ben cox will skipper worcestershire when they take on cambridge university in a three-day encounter at fenners starting tomorrow.
the county’s wicket-keeper-batsman, who made his worcestershire debut 10 years ago, was appointed red ball vice-captain last week.
he will lead the side whilst club captain joe leach undergoes the final stages of his rehabilitation programme following a stress fracture of the back.
new signings riki wessels and wayne parnell are also part of the side announced by first team coach alex gidman to face the students.
wessels has been at New Road during the build-up to the campaign whilst parnell flew in on sunday after being given time to recharge his batteries following a busy winter of t20 cricket.
the match will form the county’s last action before they start their competitive programme with the specsavers county championship match against leicestershire at the fischer county ground starting on april 11.
they have combined a mixture of white ball and red ball action since flying out to abu dhabi for the pre-season tour in early march.
the cambridge fixture is not deemed first class as the university have already featured in two matches against other counties.
