England legend, David Gower OBE, will be the guest speaker when Worcestershire Cricket Society launch their 2023-2024 winter cricket evenings programme in the Graeme Hick Pavilion next Tuesday 10 October.
Gower scored 8231 runs in 117 Tests at an average of 44.25 with 18 centuries and only Sir Alastair Cook, Joe Root, Graham Gooch and Alec Stewart have scored more Test runs for England.
He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall Of Fame in 2009 and, when England played their 1000thTest in 2018, was named in England’s greatest Test X1 by the ECB.
Gower, who played county cricket for Leicestershire and then Hampshire, passed 1,000 first class runs in a season on 13 occasions.
He ended his career with 26, 339 first class runs at an average of 40.08 with 53 centuries.
The evening will get underway at 7.30pm.
Former Worcestershire all-rounder, Stuart Lampitt, will be the guest speaker at the Society’s end of season lunch, also in the Hick Pavilion on Sunday 8 October (12.30pm).
Lampitt enjoyed a successful career with Worcestershire spanning 17 seasons and remains the Club’s leading wicket-taker in List A cricket with 370 scalps.
He also picked up 601 first class wickets and passed 50 wickets in a season on seven occasions – in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998 and 2000.
