Adam Hose produced some fourth morning fireworks for Worcestershire supporters before Surrey completed an innings and five runs victory in the Vitality County Championship match at Visit Worcestershire New Road.
Hose was content to graft away during the first part of the session as Worcestershire lost wickets at the other end after resuming on 207-5.
But after the fall of the ninth wicket Hose went onto the attack against Surrey all-rounder, Jordan Clark.
Hose struck Clark for three fours and a six in one over and then a maximum over mid wicket took him to his half century.
There was time for another six over long leg before Hose was bowled by Clark for 64 attempting a ramp shot.
Worcestershire resumed on 207-5 and quickly lost Matthew Waite who aimed to work Sean Abbott on the leg side and was plumb lbw.
Dan Lawrence came into the attack and accounted for Tom Taylor who played back to the spinner and edged through to Surrey skipper Rory Burns at first slip.
The usually fluent Hose was prepared to put his head down and concentrate solely on defence and he scored seven runs in the first hour.
Jordan Clark picked up his fourth wicket when Ben Allison shouldered arms and was bowled and Adam Finch went lbw to a ball of a full length from Dan Worrall.
But then Hose went onto the attack and came close to making Surrey bat again before he provided Clark with his fifth wicket.
Worcestershire Head Coach, Alan Richardson, said: “They bowled very well at Adam. He soaked up that pressure brilliantly well. He defended very straight and played the ball on a merit and batted for a long period of time.
“Towards the end the situation changed and he showed what he can do as well. It is great for Adam he spent some time at the crease.
“He built an innings, batted for over 100 balls until we were nine down and then showed what he can do as a white ball cricketer and showed the power and shots he has.”
On Worcestershire’s performance, Richardson said: “We were never quite at the races in giving ourselves a chance to compete.
“Surrey played very well, in patches we played well, and played with some great spirit and skill, but that’s not going to be enough to win a four day game of cricket.
“When we conceded 490, on what was a pretty good wicket, it always put us behind.
“We needed a really good effort in the second innings to make sure we weren’t too far behind and we were, and that put a lot of pressure on us in that third innings.
“Dan Lawrence played very well and was very effective. When we won the toss, we didn’t expect them to get 490.
“We didn’t quite bowl as well as we can. That was quite tough when they got 490 and we didn’t quite respond as well as we could.
“Over the last three games, we haven’t done as well. First five games, we got a lot of batting points and played in partnerships.
“We haven’t given ourselves a chances to do that in these last three games.”
