Worcestershire wicket-keeper-batsman Alex Milton has been praised for his efforts in helping Cardiff to complete a league and cup double.
Milton became the first ever player to score 1,000 runs in a season in the South Wales Premier Cricket League.
He ended the campaign with 1,103 runs at an average of 84.85 and struck five hundreds and seven half centuries in just 17 knocks.
Milton then hit an unbeaten 77 on Sunday and was chosen as man of the match as Cardiff triumphed in the Welsh Cricket Cup final when defeating Colwyn Bay.
Cardiff cricket consultant-advisor Kevin Lyons – a former Worcestershire CCC coach – said: “Opening the innings, Alex has been a model of consistency whilst playing many innings of real quality.
“Being the first player ever to score a 1000 runs in the Premier League which includes five centuries and seven fifties, speaks volumes of his all round batting ability.
“But his application has been equally impressive confirmed by the fact that in five matches he has been on the field of play throughout the duration of the game. His performances and general demeanour has impressed all involved in Welsh cricket.
“I have never once heard him talk of being tired, wanting a rest or having an injury or niggle, just wanting to play, this being a great example to the younger players at Cardiff who have aspirations of playing at a higher level .
“Bearing in mind his weekly playing schedule of keeping wicket and middle order batting with Worcestershire, his attitude and approach to Cardiff CC’s league and Welsh Cup programme has been nothing short of exemplary.
“He has demonstrated very clearly the ‘old school ‘ philosophy of physical and mental toughness gained by PLAYING thus learning about yourself ‘ in the middle ‘
“On behalf of Cardiff CC, I would want to place on record appreciation towards Worcestershire CCC for their support and encouragement for Alex to play as much as possible in league and cup competitions for Cardiff CC.
“In return he has been a very fine ambassador for the County Club.”
