alex gidman says worcestershire rapids will be looking to take plenty of momentum into the vitality blast quarter-finals after today’s wash-out against notts outlaws at New Road secured a spot in the last eight.
the rapids secured the point needed to ensure a top four spot in the north group alongside lancashire lightning, derbyshire falcons and the outlaws.
they can still finish in the top two by defeating northamptonshire steelbacks at wantage road on friday if notts lose at home to durham on the same evening.
first team coach gidman said: “frustrating for the players, the supporters, the club, disappointing, but we know we can’t do anything about the weather so we just have to take it on the chin and take the point.
“the plus side is that it has got us through to the quarter-finals with a game to spare which is very pleasing.
“really proud of the lads. it’s been a tough campaign for lots of different reasons but really pleased and we’ve still got a chance of a home quarter-final.
“most importantly for the club we are through, and we can attack friday’s game and find some momentum to hopefully take into those quarter-finals.
“i’ve just said to the lads they should be really proud they’ve qualified with a game to spare.
“you look at that south group and i think, with the exception of one team and sussex, who have already won it, there are six or seven teams that finish in the top four going into the final round.
“to be in the position we are in, is testament to the group.”
