Gillgrass hits magnificent 151 For Women’s Rapids in derby win

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids batter, Bryony Gillgrass, scored a magnificent 151 as her side launched their ECB Women’s County Championship 50 Over competition with a 235 run success over local rivals Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Gillgrass came to the wicket with Worcestershire 44-3 after being put into bat and powered them to 322 all out in 46.3 overs.

She faced just 129 balls and struck EIGHT sixes and 12 fours – a total of 96 in boundaries.

Gillgrass shared in partnerships of 51 with Charis Pavely (20), 103 with Ellie Anderson (16) and 76 with newcomer Imogen Hill (33).

Her memorable knock finally ended when she was eighth out with the total on 321 and she received a standing ovation from her team-mates.

Opener Gabrielle Basketter had got the innings off to a positive start by making 25 of the first 30 runs.

When Warwickshire batted, they quickly ran into trouble against the new ball attack of Amy Maund and Ellie Anderson.

Maund, who had taken four wickets in an over against the Bears in last season’s West Midlands Regional Cup, made two breakthroughs and Pavely one.

With the addition of a run out, Warwickshire were reduced to 19-4.

Charis Pavely and Flora Bertwhistle maintained the pressure against the middle order with two wickets apiece and Phoebe Brett cleaned up the tail as Warwickshire were bowled out for 87 in 25.2 overs.

Maund finished with 5-0-14-2, Pavely 7-3-19-2, Bertwhistle 5.2-1-11-2, Brett 1-0-1-2 and Anderson 5-0-19-1.
