Jack Haynes made a stunning return to action for Worcestershire Seconds by hitting an unbeaten 180 in the five wicket Trophy success over Yorkshire at Kidderminster.
Academy product Haynes smashed five sixes and 23 fours in his 117 ball knock in his comeback from a foot injury suffered during the winter.
The 18-year-old achieved the third highest score by a Worcestershire player in the Second Eleven Trophy and against a strong Yorkshire attack including Matt Fisher, Josh Shaw, Josh Poysden and Karl Carver.
Only Jamie Pipe – 193 not out versus Glamorgan at Neath in 2004 – and Steven Davies – 182 against Warwickshire at Harborne in 2006 – have achieved a higher score for the County in the 50 over competition.
Haynes superb knock played a major part in the Seconds chasing down a 303 target with 5.3 overs to spare for their second win in the competition.
Haynes certainly has a liking for the Chester Road wicket as his other century for the Seconds came on the same ground against Nottinghamshire last summer.
He shared in two crucial partnerships in guiding the Seconds over the finishing line.
Haynes added 104 for the second wicket in 14 overs with Angus Robson who made 53 off 47 balls before he was run out.
Adam Finch (24) then aided Haynes in a fifth wicket stand of 92.
Yorkshire had opted to bat on winning the toss but Finch and Alex Wilkinson both picked up an early wicket in reducing them to 31-2.
Former Worcestershire Academy player Will Fraine (67) and Finlay Bean (74) added 101 for the third wicket.
Fisher was left unbeaten on 99 after adding 126 for the fifth wicket with Harry Duke (34) as Yorkshire totalled 302-5.
Finch (10-0-48-2), Wilkinson (10-0-47-1) and Mahaaz Ahmed (10-0-48-2) were the Worcestershire wicket-takers and also the most economical bowlers.
For the record – Finlay Bean was caught at point by Josh Breed, Angus Robson was run out by a throw from mid-wicket by Will Fraine to wicket keeper Ben Birkhead, Alex Milton was caught by Jordan Thompson with a great diving catch at first slip and Callum Lea was caught by Josh Poysden at backward point.
*The two sides will now meet in a three day Championship match at the same venue starting tomorrow (Tuesday).
