PACE PROSPECT JACK WANTS TO CONTINUE DEVELOPING BATTING SKILLS

Worcestershire’s exciting pace bowling prospect Jack Home has revealed he was primarily regarded as a batter until only two years ago and is determined to keep developing that part of his game this winter.

Home, 18, was described as a “batting all-rounder” when he first became part of the Worcestershire Academy intake for 2020-21.

It was only from the age of 16 that Home, part of the Academy intake for four successive years, started to emerge to greater effect on the bowling front.

He signed a three-year contract in September after picking up 16 wickets in five Metro Bank One Day Cup appearances and has been selected for an England Young Lions training camp in South Africa.

But, although making his mark primarily to date in the first team with the ball, Home is determined to also keep working on his batting skills.

He said: “I never really bowled too much until I was aged 16. I got on the Worcestershire Academy as a batter.

“It is sort of something that has just come along this last year and a half at the indoor centre (at Malvern).

“I had a couple of months out of cricket the winter before last and it is something that just happened straight away.

“The bowling has just taken off, and it’s probably what I’m better at now. It’s the main reason to where I’ve got where I am.

“But I’m also very determined to work on my batting and make sure it’s up to standard and level it can be.”

Home added: “I wouldn’t say I’ve made a transition from batter to bowler. I would say the bowling is another tool to the tool kit.

“Batting is again something I really want to work on in the winter. I need to work on it to get it to the level it needs to be for the professional game.

“I want to be a batter who can help the team. It’s not like I’ve discarded the batting or I’m not focused on it.

“I still want to do really well with my batting whenever I play. It would be quite nice personally to be an all-rounder.”
