All-rounder Joe Leach is donating his Worcestershire cap which he has worn throughout his career to the county’s Heritage Group.
The all-rounder, who retired at the end of the 2024 season, received the cap when he made his County Championship debut 12 years ago.
He has worn the same cap with pride ever since in a career which produced 469 first class wickets for Worcestershire.
Now Leach is handing the battered and bruised headwear over to Heritage Co-Ordinator Tim Jones who confirmed it will be put on display in one of the cabinets in the Graeme Hick Pavilion.
Tim Jones said: “A cricketer’s cap is a treasured possession and for someone, who has such a long relationship with Worcestershire, to donate it to the Heritage Group is a very generous thing to do.
“It is battered and bruised but it has stood the test of time and it is great that the members will have a chance to see it on display in the Hick Pavilion.
“Joe has been a terrific player for Worcestershire and this will serve as a reminder to everyone who sees it of his achievements over many years.
“I know Jack Russell did something similar at Gloucestershire in donating his bucket hat and it is now in the club’s museum.”
Leach said: “When you receive your county cap, you feel great pride and I’ve worn it for something like 250 games in all competitions.
“It’s somehow managed to survive and stay in one piece!
“I’m delighted to donate it to the Heritage Group for the members, who have given me such great support, to see with all the other superb memorabilia on display.”
