LIBBY BACKS JONES TO SHOW HIS QUALITY

Jake Libby is backing fellow Worcestershire batter Rob Jones to bounce back strongly from a challenging first season at Visit Worcestershire New Road and show his quality during the next couple of years.

Metro Bank One Day Cup captain Libby points to how his opening partner Gareth Roderick has shown his ability in abundance after finding runs hard to come back during his debut campaign with Worcestershire.

The keeper-batter has developed into one of the key members of the squad and picked up four trophies at the club’s Gala Awards Night last month and Libby is predicting “plenty of success” for Jones in the future.

Libby said: “When you move to a new county it can be a challenge especially when you are playing regularly for the first time.

“I’ve spoken to Rob a little bit about it, and it is new to him. Playing virtually every game of the season, it is tough. Mentally it is tough.

“We’ve seen glimpses of his quality. He started the season really well. It probably hasn’t gone the way he would have liked but he will be better for it.

“Rodders did struggle to start with as well and he has come out the other side and done really well for us.

“I expect nothing less of Jonesy as well. We know he is a high quality player and he will be better for this year.

“He will have learnt a lot and he will take that into the next couple of years and I’m sure we will see plenty of success for him.”
