POLLOCK SAYS DYNAMIC CRICKETER BROOKES CAN KICK ON AT NEW ROAD

Ed Pollock says Worcestershire have signed a “dynamic cricketer” in his former team-mate Ethan Brookes.

Pollock played alongside Brookes at Warwickshire and captained him at Seconds level.

He believes the 22-year-old, who has signed a two-year contract, can develop into a genuine all-rounder at New Road.

Pollock said: “I’ve seen a lot of Ethan and was his captain when he started playing second team cricket for Warwickshire.

“I played quite a few years with him, and he is a very dynamic cricketer who offers with bat, ball and in the field.

“The last few years, I think his batting has really kicked on and been very much like me when I was at Warwickshire in not getting that exposure to first team cricket.

“I think he will just kick on even more.

“When I first saw him at 17, he was a bowler who batted and the last few years it looks like he has been a batter who bowls.

“But I don’t see any reason why he doesn’t end up as a genuine all-rounder.”

Pollock is flying out this week to Sydney for the winter to play for St. George CC in New South Wales Premier first grade cricket.

He said: “I’ve been to Perth twice before but it’s the first time I’m playing in Sydney and I’m there through to March.

“I’m looking forward to it. Nothing replicates match practice, being able to play games.

“At the end of the day, cricket is about scoring runs and taking wickets and you can just get into those good habits of trying to win matches for your side, stuff you can’t really replicate indoors.

“You can get your Test stars coming out in grade cricket which really doesn’t happen in club cricket over here.

“You get the odd county player in club cricket over here but over there when the Australia players and State players are available, they will play.

“It is always the hope, that you come back with lots of runs or wickets under your belt. It can set you really up for the season.”
