Worcestershire keeper-batter Gareth Roderick has flown out to South Africa to captain Green Point CC for a third successive season in the Western Province Premier Division.
Roderick took over as first team captain with the Cape Town based club in December 20222 and has led by example with the bat.
He has scored more than 600 runs in each of his two seasons at the helm and been one of the Premier Division’s leading scorers.
Roderick also believes playing throughout the winter helps keep in nick for when he returns to Visit Worcestershire New Road in March.
He said: “I’ve found it really helpful over the last couple of years to not put the bat and ball away for six months and then try and pick it up again.
“The consistency of playing, albeit at a lower level and a lot less frequently, does help me stay in the zone with match fitness, facing bowlers throughout the winter, stay catching balls behind the stumps.
It really does help when I get back outside with Worcestershire and I don’t really feel I have been away from the game for a long period of time.”
Roderick picked up four trophies when Worcestershire staged their Gala Awards Evening in the Chestnut Marquee on Sunday evening.
He will make his first appearance of the season for Green Point in mid-October.
