Seconds are edged out by local rivals in two-day finish at Edgbaston

Worcestershire Seconds side went down by three wickets inside two days in a see-saw Championship fixture with Warwickshire Seconds at Portland Road, Edgbaston.

The game was in the balance when Warwickshire, chasing a total of 209, were 164-7 in their second innings.

But they reached their target without any further setbacks despite triallist Zain Latif picking up four wickets for 68 runs in 19 overs.

Twenty two wickets went down on the opening day after Warwickshire won the toss and opted to bowl.

Henry Cullen struck 62 off 70 balls with nine fours batting at number four for Worcestershire who were bowled out for 161.

Warwickshire also found runs a struggle and were dismissed for 162 with Jack Home returning excellent figures of 10.1-4-18-4.

Worcestershire lost two wickets in their second innings before the close but Rehaan Edavalath made 52 from 78 balls with 10 fours on the second morning.

He put on 59 for the third wicket with Cullen (26) and another triallist in Tom Hinley (33) added 55 for the seventh wicket with Steve Essenhigh (28).

With Olly Cox contributing 30, Worcestershire totalled 209 in 46.4 overs.

Warwickshire were 86-1, then 113-5 and 164-7 before finally getting across the finishing line.
