Worcestershire Seconds followed on 240 runs in arrears on day two of the Championship match with Leicestershire at Stourbridge despite half centuries from Ollie Westbury and Alex Milton and determined resistance from nightwatchman Mahaaz Ahmed.
The County made a fine start in reply to Leicestershire’s 519-3 declared after resuming on 16-1.
Westbury and Ahmed batted through the morning session without being parted and reached lunch on 119-1 from 44 overs.
The half century came up for Westbury off 95 balls with nine fours and he completed a century stand with his batting partner.
But the picture changed immediately after the interval.
Ahmed’s defiant knock ended on 38 from 122 balls when he was lbw to Tom Taylor who in his next over bowled Westbury for 67.
He hit 11 boundaries in an innings spanning 150 deliveries.
Jack Haynes (20) and brother Josh (21), playing his first SEC match since July 2016, put on 42 before being caught behind and at mid off respectively.
The remainder of the innings was held together by skipper-keeper Milton whose unbeaten 62 was made from 98 balls with seven fours.
He received useful support from Nick Hammond (18) and Dillon Pennington (15) in stands of 39 and 40 respectively.
But Worcestershire, who acquired three batting points, were asked to bat again after being bowled out for 279 in 92 overs.
They lost two wickets in reaching 45-2 with Westbury (1) caught behind and Tom Fell (22) lbw both from the bowling of Gavin Griffiths.
