ed barnard has been called “mr consistent” by worcestershire head coach kevin sharp who believes he will go onto earn full england honours.
sharp heaped praise on barnard when presenting him with the prestigious dick lygon award – which recognises a players contribution on and off the field – at the county’s annual awards evening at New Road.
it was the last of four awards won by 22-year-old barnard during the evening – a testament to another excellent campaign for the all-rounder who earned his first england lions call-up in june.
sharp worked initially with barnard in his role as second eleven coach and has seen him progress into his current role as a key member of the worcestershire side.
he said: “i’m particularly privileged to present this award. it goes to a young man who is relatively young in age but certainly not young in maturity.
“he has been a member of this team for two or three years. he has been a consistent performer and he is a lovely bloke.
“he is a top man, rated throughout the country, not just by his team-mates but by other teams and officials.
“ed is a real genuine all-rounder for me. he is a guy who bats, bowls and fields equally well.
“he is just a stalwart in his younger years and i think he has got a very bright future in front of him.
“ed is mr consistent himself and i personally believe he will go all the way and play for england.“
