New Road will this sunday (june 9) host the first women’s soft ball cricket mega fest of 2019.
the fest is targeted at girls-women aged 14+ who have little or no previous cricketing experience and is being staged from 9am to 12.30pm on the king’s school ground pitches.
anyone in that age bracket can participate – as an individual or as part of teams of six to eight players.
admission to the fest is free and each participant will also receive a ticket for the england v west indies royal london women’s odi taking place at worcestershire ccc’s New Road headquarters on the same day.
families and friends are more than welcome to support the mega fest but will need to purchase a ticket online – priced £10 for adults and £1 for juniors – from the worcestershire ccc website if they want to then remain and watch the women’s odi
the worcestershire cricket board limited (wcbl) have already received some encouraging feedback from softball club festivals that have been staged already during 2019.
sylvie baduel-butler, captain of the newly formed martley mandarins at martley cc, echoed the sentiments of many participants when she said: “absolutely loved our first ever women’s soft ball cricket festival.
“we had never played cricket before except in our gardens or on the beach.
“we were nervous but everyone was super friendly and made us feel welcome and at ease.
“the buzz and feelgood factor from the experience afterwards lasted for a long time.”
