Emma Hallam, Board Director Worcestershire County Cricket Club

Emma grew up in the East Midlands and holds an Economics degree. She joined HSBC, where she has spent over 30 years leading various Corporate and Commercial Banking teams, including Leverage Finance across the Midlands. Emma also led the local Corporate team for Herefordshire and Worcestershire for several years. In the past five years, her focus has shifted to Climate Risk and Sustainability at HSBC, where she furthered her studies in Sustainability Leadership at the Leonardo Centre for Sustainability at Imperial College. She now oversees Climate Risk for HSBC’s Wealth and Personal Banking business globally.

Emma has been on the board for nearly five years, initially advising on financial credit risk and broader risk matters. For the past two years, she has served as the board lead for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), where she developed the club’s first EDI plan, established a working group, and completed an ECB-sponsored EDI Leadership Programme. Recently, Emma was also appointed as the board lead for safeguarding. Given the club’s challenges with flooding, she has taken an active role in advising on sustainability issues as well.

Emma is passionate about two key focus areas: advancing the women’s and girls’ game at Worcestershire, especially following the granting of Tier 2 status, and broadening the demographic of people attending cricket matches and events at New Road.

A Worcestershire resident for the past 25 years, Emma lives with her husband Chris and their two grown sons. The family has a strong connection to cricket, with both sons having played in the Worcestershire and Herefordshire pathways and at Ombersley Cricket Club since they were young. Chris is also a qualified umpire. For many years, the family has been regular attendees of Worcestershire T20 games. Emma fondly recalls how cricket has shaped many of their best family memories, including following England’s cricket team abroad.

Emma is committed to living well in midlife, staying active, and promoting sustainability. She has retrofitted her home with solar panels and drives an electric car as part of her effort to live in balance with the environment. Her vision for the club is to create a long-term sustainable future, making it a central hub for the diverse groups that form the local community. Emma is excited about the board’s strategic thinking and is determined to leave a positive, lasting impact as a custodian of this historic club.
