Josh Tongue was amongst the wickets as Worcestershire Seconds wrapped up their 2018 Championship programme with a nine wicket win over Derbyshire Seconds at Belper CC.
The paceman had figures on the final day of 5.1-1-11-4 as Derbyshire lost their last seven wickets for 46 runs in 20.1 overs.
It was a heartening sight for County supporters in Tongue’s comeback match from a metatarsal fracture.
Skipper Ollie Westbury then hit a rapid half century as the Seconds reached their modest 87 victory target in just 13 overs.
It earned them a maximum haul of 24 points – four for batting, four for bowling and 16 for winning the match.
Derbyshire resumed on 80-3 and added 10 further runs before Dillon Pennington started a procession of wickets by trapping Callum Brodrick lbw for 33.
The England Under-19 bowler picked up his sixth wicket of the game at the same total as Daryn Smit (0) went for a pull and was caught by Steve Joe at square leg.
Tongue then took centre stage and began by trapping former Worcestershire Academy player Zen Malik lbw for 20.
Hamidullah Qadri (0) nicked Tongue to Ben Twohig at third slip and he then wrapped up the tail.
Steve Magoffin claimed the other Derbyshire wicket to fall on the final day and Pennington ended with figures of 9-4-19-3 – and 23-7-61-6 in the match
Openers Westbury and Tom Fell were in the mood to wrap up proceedings in double quick time and put on 73 in 10.4 overs before the latter on 32 was caught at mid-wicket off Qadri.
Westbury remained unbeaten on 51 from 44 balls with 10 boundaries.
