TWOHIG PRAISE FOR “EXCELLENT APPROACH” DURING INJURY REHAB

Ben Twohig has been praised for his “excellent approach and work ethic” in ensuring he returned to fitness as soon as possible after missing the entire 2019 campaign through injury.

The Worcestershire CCC spinner was side-lined with an anterior cruciate ligament tear for the whole of the summer which denied him the opportunity of building on his seven Specsavers County Championship appearances during 2018.

But Twohig was able to return to batting and bowling in the nets by the end of the season and will now head to Australia this winter to play for Southern Districts.

Worcestershire CCC Head Of Sports Science and Medicine, Ben Davies, said: “Twiggy has been excellent with his fitness and his rehab. It will stand him in good stead for when he comes back.

“I think Ben is actually fitter now after doing four or five months of rehab than he has ever been in his short career so far.

“He was batting and bowling by the end of the season and doing really, really well so really impressed.

“He will be more than ready to go to Australia and get a few months of cricket.

“We had a big chat about it and, after missing six months of cricket, we can recoup that this winter.

“Because of how fit he has got himself, we can allow him to go and do that. He has been really impressive with how hard he has worked.”

Davies added: “We are quite lucky that Ali McKenzie, our assistant physio, is going to visit his family this winter in Australia so he is going to work with Twiggy for a couple of weeks.

“Twiggy has got himself a physio while he is out there, has got himself 24-7 access to a gym which he has sorted out himself.

“We know he has got everything he needs to maintain or even improve his fitness while he is there and we will monitor him weekly.”
