Worcestershire County Cricket Club are proud to announce the grand opening of a new multi-faith and quiet space located between the Chestnut Marquee and the Family Stand at Visit Worcestershire New Road. This inclusive and welcoming room was officially opened on Sunday by CEO Ashley Giles, BBC’s Qasa Alom, and four junior Worcestershire members who served as match mascots for the fixture against Northants Steelbacks.
The multi-faith and quiet space is designed to provide visitors of all backgrounds with a serene environment for reflection, prayer, and relaxation. This initiative underscores Worcestershire’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and accommodating the diverse needs of all visitors.
“We are thrilled to introduce this new multi-faith and quiet space to our visitors,” said Ashley Giles, CEO of Worcestershire County Cricket Club.
“”At Visit Worcestershire New Road, we strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and respected. This space is a testament to our dedication to inclusivity and community, providing a sanctuary for all who visit.”
Qasa Alom, a well-known BBC presenter, emphasised the importance of such spaces in public venues, saying, “Having a designated area for quiet reflection and prayer is essential in today’s diverse society.
“It’s wonderful to see Worcestershire County Cricket Club taking such proactive steps to accommodate all visitors.”
The room was opened with a special ceremony prior to Sunday’s match, with the participation of four junior Worcestershire members who were honoured as match mascots. The young supporters had the unique opportunity to be part of this significant moment, highlighting the importance of community and the next generation of Worcestershire supporters.
Ashley Giles added, “This space not only enhances our facilities but also reflects our core values of respect and community.
“We hope it will be a place where visitors can find peace and solace, whether they are here for a match, an event, or simply visiting the ground.”
Neil Radford, director of Rapid Retail, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are incredibly proud to have played a part in bringing this multi-faith and quiet space to life.
“At Rapid Retail, we understand the importance of creating inclusive environments that cater to the diverse needs of the community.
“This space at Visit Worcestershire New Road is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and dedicated effort can come together to provide a sanctuary for all visitors, enhancing their overall experience.”
The multi-faith and quiet space is now open to all visitors during regular match day hours.
