WOMEN’S RAPIDS CAPTAIN RETURNS FROM INJURY FOR CUP FINAL

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids captain, Chloe Hill, will return after injury to lead the side in the West Midlands Regional Cup (WMRC) final against Staffordshire at Kenilworth Wardens CC on Sunday (August 27).

Hill has been side-lined with a broken finger which also prevented her from playing in the Hundred for London Spirit, and Clare Boycott has been skippering the Rapids.

But the keeper-batter has been able to train with the Spirit and is hoping the Rapids can go one better in the WMRC after finishing runners-up to Cricket Wales 12 months ago.

She said: “It still feels sore but I’m alright, and it’s nice to be able to come back and play for Worcestershire with a trophy at stake.

“Clare is experienced and very capable of leading the group and it’s always great to have someone like that in your team. The girls have done so well.

“For me, it’s been a frustrating summer but the timing of the injury has meant I was still able to be involved with The Hundred, still had the training from the coaches who have been great. It’s been a good experience in general.”

The Rapids were beaten last weekend by Staffordshire in the final group fixture.

Hill said: “Staffordshire have got a good group of players and I know a few of them from my Central Sparks days but hopefully we can go one better this time.

“To win another cup, after the success in the T20 Cup last summer, would be excellent.”

The Rapids will be without Ellie Anderson, Charis Pavely, Ami Campbell and Emily Arlott (The Hundred) while Hannah Hardwick has been called up by England Under-19s for a warm-up fixture against Sri Lanka.

But Hill is delighted to have Georgina Macey available after she made her comeback last weekend following maternity leave.

Hill said: “This time last year she had to pull out of the final, because that’s when she found she was expecting the little one, so it’s come a bit of a 360 degrees circle.”
