Worcestershire Women’s Rapids will take on Staffordshire in the final of the West Midlands Regional Cup at Kenilworth Wardens CC next Sunday (August 27).
The Rapids will be aiming to redress the balance after losing their final group game by six wickets to Staffordshire at Halesowen CC this weekend.
They finished second in the group on 29 points from their three matches, six behind Staffordshire.
The Rapids will also be striving to go one better after narrowly losing last year’s final with a below strength side to Cricket Wales.
They were put into bat against Staffordshire and captain Clare Boycott (32) put on 55 for the second wicket with Georgina Macey (25) who was playing her first game of the season after maternity leave.
The Rapids reached 85-1 but then slipped to 131-8 before Ellie Roberts (22) and Melissa Watson (10 not out) added 52 for the ninth wicket.
The Rapids were bowled out for 191 in 48.4 overs and were aided by 65 extras, including 38 wides.
When Staffordshire batted, Amy Maund made the first breakthrough after Meg Austin (47 off 31 balls) had dominated an opening stand of 54 with Stephanie Buttler (23).
Maund (10-1-40-1) and spinner Flora Bertwhistle (10-0-41-1) bowled their full quota of overs and there was one wicket apiece for Gabby Basketter and Millie Carr.
But Christine Gough (50 not out) and Lexie Cantrill (26 not out) joined forces at 128-4 and saw Staffordshire to victory in 38.3 overs.
