WOMEN’S RAPIDS TRIUMPH FOR SECOND TIME IN 24 HOURS

WOMEN’S RAPIDS TRIUMPH FOR SECOND TIME IN 24 HOURS

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids made it two wins in 24 hours in Division Two of the ECB County Championship when they defeated Somerset Women by four wickets at Kidderminster.

The Rapids followed up their eight wicket success over Cricket Wales by overhauling a 171 target with 2.1 overs to spare.

Their double triumph has boosted hopes of staying up after losing the opening four matches in the competition.

An unbeaten 61 from Clare Boycott saw the Rapids home after Emily Arlott and Sarah Glenn had impressed with the ball.

Somerset were put into bat and Arlott claimed the first three wickets in reducing them to 45-3.

A double breakthrough from Glenn meant half of the side were back in the pavilion with 79 on the board.

But 47 from Somerset captain Sophie Luff plus the last two wickets adding 42 lifted the final total to 170 all out in 47.1 overs.

Arlott returned to the attack to claim a fourth scalp and finished with fine figures of 10-2-25-4.

Glenn also enjoyed a further success and her final analysis was also impressive – 10-4-23-3 – with Boycott (1-28), Jessica Humby (1-6) and Flora Bertwhistle (1-33) the other wicket-takers.

Rachel Howells (32) and captain Georgie Adcock (11) gave the Rapids a solid start in reply with an opening partnership of 43.

Boycott then came to the wicket and her 113 ball knock ensured the Rapids triumphed with Arlott helping her in an unbroken stand of 33.
