Worcestershire Academy involved in thrilling tie at Bromsgrove School

Worcestershire Academy (Under-18s) were involved in a thrilling tie when they took on the Staffordshire Senior Development squad in a 50 over encounter at Bromsgrove School.

Staffordshire were set a 271 target and needed one to win off the final ball of the game with the last pair of Jack Hammond (11 not out) and Ben Holt (14) at the wicket after adding 36.

But the game ended all square after Holt was stumped by Flynn Gunston off the bowling of Worcestershire captain, Ben Clarke.

Clarke finished with 3-33 from seven overs while six other players picked up one wicket apiece.

Opener Tom Moulton was the main contributor for Staffordshire with 105 off 117 balls.

Worcestershire had batted consistently to reach 270-6 after winning the toss.

Yusuf Akbar (48) shared in stands of 50 with Jospeh Harrison (28) and 56 with Gunston (56) for the first two wickets.

Gunston and Olly Cox (61) added a further 80 for the third wicket before Clarke chipped in with 37.

Staffordshire lost wickets at regular intervals and were 13-2, 51-3, 147-6 and 234-9 before the thrilling finale.
